School's back! Last term of school already! I can't believe it. I feel like this year has just flown by. Do you feel the same? I absolutely love school holidays and having the children at home with me. It's so nice not to have to be on schedule and just enjoy time together. I love to bake with my kids and do arts and craft. We live by the beach, so we love going down to the beach and enjoying the outdoors. What are some of your favourite things to do during school holidays?
The hardest part about going back to school, is getting back into the school routine. Early mornings and a list of things that need to be done before heading to school. The mornings can be soooooo stressful and the time seems to go by so much quicker in the morning, than any other part of the day! Am I right? I'll say "We have to leave in 20 minutes" and what feels like 5 minutes is actually 15 minutes gone past!
The only way to keep track of time is to look at the time. Before I started wearing my watch I was always running late to everything. Since I started wearing my watch I run on time and I find that I don't have the same anxiety that I used to get when I was running late. It's all about good time management. So I thought to myself, its so important that as parents we teach our children good time management skills from a young age.
We live in a time where everything is so fast paced and the demands on our family, work and social life just keep growing. If we don't teach our children these skills from a young age, it just adds to the pressures and deadlines that come with life.
The first step in teaching children to manage their time, is to teach children how to 'tell' the time. There are many resources out there, but I found that the best way is for them to wear a watch, so they can have a constant reference to time. When I was looking at getting a watch for my children with learn to tell the time features, I didn't like the look of any that I saw and they had so much going on. They were divided in half, with different colours and all sorts of things. I wanted a kids' watch that looked good and helped my children learn how to tell the time. I couldn't find one, so we designed and created our own. Sparrow Watches is our brand and we have designed high quality, stylish watches for the modern child with learn to tell the time features on the watch face. Our kids' watches with learn to tell the time features look like a regular watch face, and these features are designed in a way that are clear for the child to read, without affecting the style of the watch.
We wanted to create a kids' watch that would not just look good, but would also be a kids' learn to tell the time watch. By designing the watch face to look like a regular watch face, with the addition of the learn to tell the time features, means that once the child learns how to tell the time on their own watch, they should also be able to easily read it on any regular watch face, as it will look like their own watch. By wearing their watch everyday and being encouraged to read the time regularly, they should understand the concept of time quicker than just relying on learning about time at school and practice makes perfect!
Once children can read the time, it is so much easier for them to manage their time and understand the concept of time. Saying you have 10 minutes to finish eating breakfast to your child means nothing to them if they don't have a reference to time. If they can look at their watch and see that it is now 7:10am so they need to finish by 7:20am, that is going to help them get all their things done and save you from going crazy every morning and we all know that a peaceful morning is PRICELESS!!!
Learning how to tell the time from a young age is so important and teaching children good self time management skills is an essential life skill, which can reduce stress and anxiety and improve success in all areas of life. Hope you all have a great last term of school and may your mornings be peaceful and happy.
With love,
Ena xx
